What is the Leadership Discovery Experience™?

In short, The Experience is an approach for supporting and guiding emerging leaders.

 

We strongly believe that leaders are everywhere in the world and occupy every position in our organizations. We also know that people are whole, resourceful and creative and that when encouraged and supported with the right conditions, will emerge effortlessly into their leaderful self. Unfortunately, leadership has become synonymous with senior management. And, while many senior managers are true leaders, many are not. Conversely, many people without the rank and title of senior manager are leaderful human beings.

 

The Experience seeks to tap in to the capacity of leaders everywhere and begin bridging the gap between organizational leadership and leaderful contribution.

 

Our goal is to distribute leadership more broadly throughout organizations and the world for the greater good of both.

The Experience of Discovery

If we stop for a moment of reflection, is there anyone or anything that you can truly "develop"? It is a myth to believe that one human being can "develop" another human being. In truth, each of us comes fully developed as whole beings. Our "holiness" is in recognizing each others' wholeness. All we need therefore is to discover this within ourselves through heightened awareness. The Leadership Discovery Experience© has been designed to support you in experiencing this heightened awareness and to bring your attention to your potential contribution as a leader in the world.

A familiar profile?  

If you've found your way to this site it's likely that you've come to some key realizations in your life. Do any of these resemble yours?

 

  • I know I have more to offer and am becoming increasingly frustrated by my ability to figure out what that is and how to make it happen.
  • I've been searching for answers, information and ideas on how to become a better leader; person.
  • I've read countless books and articles and am struggling with how to pull it all together and relate it to me and my world
  • I've taken or been sent on countless "programs" but none of the ideas and skills seem to stick in my world
  • I think I understand all of this in my head but find it difficult to connect it all with what I feel in my heart

We know. We've felt this way, too. And, with some wise and caring support from leaderful friends around the world we are finding our way through these challenges. What we have realized in the process is that if it's possible for us to become more leaderful, it is possible for other people as well. And that's how the Leadership Discovery Experience came to be.

What can you expect from The Experience ?

The Experience captures, models and shares the big patterns, learning and wisdom gleaned from countless other leaders' discovery EXPERIENCES. But it doesn't stop there. The Experience incorporates each new person's life experience in the larger, co-evolving EXPERIENCE of discovery. In doing so, an ever growing and evolving "community of experience" is built where people are simultaneously student, teacher, experience and experiencer.

 

The Experience doesn't sound much like anything you've seen or participated in before, right? Well that's ON PURPOSE, with the "purpose" being meaningful and sustainable transformation of each and every member; transformation into the person each wants and knows they can become; transformation that is supported by a community of caring, sharing and like-willed people.

How does The Experience work?

The Leadership Discovery Experience© uses a few simple learning methods, tools and processes to engage and support people in the experience.
The Discovery FrameworkTM consists of:

 

 

  • Heightening Awareness
  • Reflecting
  • Deciding
  • Mobilizing Awareness

Heightening Awareness: throughout The Experience you are introduced to situations, relationships and tools that enable you to become more attentive to and aware of yourself, your myths and truths, your values, your impact on others and your capacity to make meaningful contributions in your world.

 

Reflecting: throughout The Experience you are provided with the spaciousness to reflect deeply on what is most important to you and to make critical connections between your head and your heart.

 

Deciding: through out The Experience you are challenged to identify critical decision points and to make conscious and thoughtful trade-offs; reconciling what is realizable from what is desirable in your unique context. Some decisions will be small and others significant. Each choice becomes "challenge" or commitment for you to become more leaderful in you life.

 

Mobilizing Awareness -throughout the discovery experience you are challenged to act on your heightened awareness and individual choices. Colleagues, participants and other critical relationships in your world are engaged in supporting and providing perspective on the impact of your (new) behaviours. This feeds back into heightening your awareness and further evolves your "discovery" experience.

Key Support Tools: Throughout The Experience you will be introduced to proven techniques for heightening and mobilizing awareness. These include Self assessments; Appreciative Inquiry; Story-telling; Dialogue; Free-writing; Journaling; and Mind practices. Each tool will be explored in a safe and positive environment and will be supported by experts in each tool and technique.

 

Learning Methods: The Experience is designed to be an organic and free-flowing discovery and learning that is guided and supported by caring professionals that blend facilitating, teaching, coaching and mentoring techniques. Each Experience will be unique by virtue of its member composition. Every Experience will be purposeful and meaningful because every Experience will leverage the Discovery FrameworkTM

What type of commitment is required?

The Leadership Discovery Experience© is held over the course of one year and is comprised of quarterly day-long group experiences, monthly coaching sessions and mentorship support. Each Experience is supported and facilitated by qualified and leaderful people from the Canadian and World Centres for Leadership and Human Values. Each Experience can accommodate 15 to 20 experiencers and costs $3,000 CDN per person. People are accepted following an intake process that includes a written submission and a dialogue with an Experience facilitator.

Will my boss/colleagues/friends/family think I'm crazy for doing this?

We certainly hope not. In fact, they might be crazy for not doing it, too, but that's a different issue! Years of research, teaching and practice together with the stories of hundreds of leaderful lives-lived have culminated in the Leadership Discovery Experience©. Noteworthy amongst the many contributors is Dr. Debashis Chatterjee.

 

The Discovery Experience and FrameworkTM have been co-developed and endorsed by world acclaimed leadership author, thought leader and professor, Dr. Debashis Chatterjee. Dr. Chatterjee is a Fulbright Fellow at Harvard University and MIT and was recently a Senior Fulbright Professor at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government. His work and contribution to leadership and personal transformation is acclaimed by pioneers like Peter Senge, John Kotter and Margaret Wheatley as well as Presidents, Prime Ministers and CEO's throughout the world. His work and love are the inspiration for the Leadership Discovery Experience© and the Canadian, Indian and World Centres for Leadership and Human Values.

What do I do next?

Quietly and deeply reflect on the awareness that has been heightening in your self recently.

  • What's this all mean to you? What possibility lies ahead? What's holding you back from realizing this possibility? What's really important to you in living life fully? Who are you? Where are you going? What will your contribution be?

 

Make a decision.

  • What are you prepared to do differently or do at all? How will that make you feel? Whose decision is it, really? What's your decision?

 

Mobilize your heightened awareness by mobilizing your decision.

  • What kind of support will you need to make your decision stick? Engage someone else in your decision. Start a new dialogue. Start a new relationship. Begin a new story or chapter to your story. Begin today.
