Presence by Senge et. al. - Recommended?

Wondering if anyone in the CCHLC community has read Presence: Human Purpose and the Field of the Future By Peter M. Senge, C. Otto Scharmer, Joseph Jaworski, Betty Sue?

Would you recommend it...if not why not, if so...why...

How has Peter and team's thinking evolved in this book...is he saying something new?

 Thanks for the advice...

A Contemplative Science: Who Teaches It

Check out my conversations with various people on Sam Harris's website (the Author of the book "The End of Faith"...and some other links to some really interesting stuff I've
uncovered when I posted a question: A Contemplative Science: Who Teaches It? http://www.samharris.org/forum/viewthread/8717/   The last post on page 3 has my learnings in it.
Have started my practice in parallel with all this intelectual theory (!) and intend to keep going on this journey.
Looked into some local groups to support my practice...but haven't settled on one yet.
Happy to share my thoughts with anyone who wants to email me.
P.S. Thanks to Maureen Geddes and Kathleen Kevany who recommended the End of Faith to me at the 2005 CCHLV event in Burlington.  No idea how they knew it was the right book at the right time for me...but boy did they get it right!
Atheism: A Rough History of Disbelief Antony Upward Oct 16/07

Atheism: A Rough History of Disbelief

Just caught the first (Monday Oct 4) and second (Thurs Oct 11)  of three (final episode Thurs Oct 18, 10pm) one hour TB programmes "Atheism: A Rough History of Disbelief" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atheism:_A_Rough_History_of_Disbelief) by well known polymath Jonathan Miller (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jonathan_Miller) being broadcast on US PBS WNED (available in the Toronto area at least (www.wned.org)

It is one of most considered thoughtful and thought provoking hours of TV I've watched in a great while. A great dose of rational thinking in this post 9/11 world.

To get a sense check out the quotes he uses:

http://www.secularsites.freeuk.com/jonathan_miller_quotes.htm

There are also transcripts available of 6 detailed interviews Jonathan Miller did (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Atheism_Tapes) which were then edited down for the TV programmes with:

- Arthur Miller

- Richard Dawkins

- Steve Weinberg

- Colin McGinn

- Denys Turner

- Daniel Dennett.

See http://tapes.atbhost.com/index.php for the transcripts of these interviews...just started to read.

This is being shown on other PBS stations...see http://www.abriefhistoryofdisbelief.org/

Influencing others Brenda Foster Aug 26/07

Influencing others

I'd like to share with you the insights of my seventeen year old  niece, Erica, following her recent trip to Honduras. The experience certainly influenced her, and in turn, sharing of her story has influenced others. It has reminded me how fortunate I am and to remember not to take anything for granted. As well, how important it is to enjoy life to the fullest.  I hope you enjoy the comments from this leaderful young woman......

"I love how Europeans give you a kiss on the cheek when they say goodbye. I am going to start calling soccer football. I am going to appreciate flushing toilets. I realise that we are so incredibly fortunate here. I am going to try my very hardest not to let food be wasted. I am going to see Canada. I am going to remember that fun is an honourable and necessary pursuit sometimes. I am going to learn Spanish. I am going to be a better recycler. I am going to pursue what makes me happy, not rich. I am going to take more risks because I don't want to end up being someone who was "too afraid to fly, so never did land". I am going to do my best not to pollute my body, mind, environment and soul."

This is Australia calling Aruna Pavithran Jul 26/07

This is Australia calling

One afternoon, a year or so ago, I was standing on my balcony overlooking Sydney Harbour and thought to myself, this town should have a beautiful, resource-neutral hotel. I felt a surge of energy suffuse my spine and muscles and I realised – with a combination of dismay and gratitude – that this was the kind of thing I wanted to be doing. So audacious! I had no idea about how to get from supply chain consultant to green property developer extraordinaire. Well, I’m still not sure but I believe the universe does cos I'm now calculating carbon emissions and figuring out how to build factories that run on solar power. Not too many steps to audaciousness! In the meantime, the universe has been playing with me, hard things (being broke, physical pain) and wonderful things (life with my partner, living on Australia's magical Gold Coast, watching a novel emerge... slowly...) and lots inbetween.

That's my news-in-brief, in honour of my lovely Canadian friends. Without you, how would I know what patience looks like? You are remembered with great love.

Women's Health Symposium Linda Moore May 16/07

Women's Health Symposium

This past Mother's Day weekend I had the priviledge of being a speaker at an amazing event. Two leaderful people, Jan Beazley and Linda Hamilton along with a couple dozen other women decided that they wanted to support a more proactive approach to women's health in their community of Fort Francis. The inaugural year was last year an they had an attendance of 250. This year 450 women came! There were women from all seasons of life, all sharing and all learning. Simply marvellous! They had over 60 booths offering everything from hand massages to information on abuse; from jewelry making to a mini fitness test. They had speakers throughout the day and the final event was a great commedienne who brought the house down. The price of admission...a toonie and that included lunch! It demonstrates once again that all things are possible when leaderful people follow a dream! Well done ladies!!!!

Great Articles...Thanks!

The articles in your Resources Section have the effect of making one stop for a minute in what we all to some degree think is a busy day and contemplate how much good we could do with very little effort.

Congratulations Linda for your beautiful writing and making time for those of us who believe we are too "busy" to hear and learn.

Please keep sharing these with us all.

Exploring New Research Opportunites Brad Quinn Apr 27/07

Exploring New Research Opportunites

For the past 3 years the CCLHV has been holding Leadership Discovery Experiences (LDEs) in a handful of organizations. The impact of this unique approach to building leaders and communities has been significant, magnificent and to some degree unbelievable. The stories and comments expressed by the participants in theses programs are a testament to the type and scope of impact the LDEs have had on human beings and the organizations and communities to which they belong.

The undeniable pattern of these participant experiences got us wondering… “What the heck is really going on here?” When we asked around we weren’t too surprised that a number of other people close to the LDE and the Centre were asking themselves the same question.

On Thursday April 26, 2007 a handful of leaderful people, passionate human beings and Centre supporters gathered to explore their individual and collective “curiosities”. Each person was asked two simple questions:

What are you most curious about?

What would you like to discover or further substantiate about what is going on here?

Everyone agreed that uncovering the answers to these curiosities would enable the Centre and perhaps thousands of other committed organizational and community leaders to significantly magnify the impact they have in the world. At the end of our little gathering we realized that other people might be curious too!  So we agreed to share our musings with everyone as a means to explore what might be occupying other peoples thoughts and feelings.

If you're curious about what we came up with, go to the What's Going On section, select the Stuff We're Doing page and follow the link entitled "Exploring New Research Opportunites".

And then, give us your thoughts right here in the Xpressions area.

 Go for it...we need you!

Story Time - I Love You Meghan Quinn Mar 10/07

Story Time - I Love You

I met some girls at a special school in India last February. When I got home my Dad and me started telling stories to them over the internet. We did lots of stories. It was fun. Here's our favourite story.

Meghan 1

Every bird loves a tree. Every flower loves a bee. Every lock loves a key.

And I love you.

Every sock loves a shoe. Every ghost loves a boo. Every one loves a two.

And I love you.

Every shovel loves a pail. Every monkey loves a tail.  Every wave loves a whale.

And I love you.

Every farmer loves a rake. Every duck loves a lake. Every candle loves a cake.

And I love you.

My girls in India

This is a picture of me and the girls - with their new winter coats - at Bal Upavan, Lucknow, India. We had just finished a little photo shoot and fashion show! The coats were purchased with money that friends and family (maybe you!) donated (thank you!). I left Bal Upavan to come back to Canada the next day....

Chance meeting with His Holiness

While travelling on "Discovery India" in February 2006 we had a chance meeting with His Holiness, The Dalai Lama at our hotel in Delhi. An unexpected surprise to say the least it set the tone for a magical 10 days in this beautiful country.
